The Role of AI in Building a more Equitable Future
Modern AI is poised to have both deep and broad societal impact.
Its ability to automate rote tasks, to assist users in creative processes, and to extract and explain complex data is already providing value across a wide range of jobs today, increasing productivity and economic growth.
How can we make sure that these tools do not deepen existing inequities across society and across the world, leaving some communities even further behind? Which role do we have in countering the organic trends?

Michael Tjalve is Chief AI Architect on the Tech for Social Impact team in Microsoft Philanthropies where he works with nonprofits and humanitarian organizations around the world on building technology solutions that help them amplify their impact and address some of today’s biggest societal challenges. He's Assistant Professor at University of Washington where he teaches AI in the humanitarian sector and ethical innovation and he serves as tech advisor to Spreeha Foundation and World Humanitarian Forum.
